In recent months, national headlines about Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Kevin Spacey, politicians and others have brought sexual harassment in the workplace to the forefront.

McCleskey attorneys Bill Lane and Will Griffis will give employers detailed information on what sexual harassment is and how to properly deal with it during the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce’s first Business at its Best seminar, Tuesday, March 27 from 8:30-11 a.m. at the FirstBank & Trust Operations Center, 9826 Slide Road.

Tickets are $50 and $35 for Chamber members. To register click here or email allison.cottrell@lubbockbiz.org for more information.

Griffis said he estimates only 25 percent of businesses really understand this issue.

“It’s probably low because they think it won’t happen to them – they have more important things to worry about,” said Griffis.

And if someone does not respond properly to a complaint, they could be seriously liable with extreme consequences for the business, said Griffis.

“With the significance of sexual harassment in today’s world, it’s important employers and employees be aware of what constitutes sexual harassment, its consequences and the laws that pertain to sexual harassment,” said Griffis.

Lane will also discuss how he thinks this issue will get worse before it gets better.
